Research Manager
As Research Manager, you will ensure that GovAI's researchers get more done and receive the feedback and support they need. You will implement the systems necessary to support a continually growing number of researchers and make sure they stay coordinated and on track. You will manage the systems and culture that enable our research team to operate at the highest level, from onboarding new talent to maintaining and improving our intellectual environment.
You will serve as the operational backbone for our research function, working closely with researchers to help them select impactful projects, develop professionally, and navigate the challenges of producing outputs that are helpful and available to relevant stakeholders. For candidates with strong research backgrounds, the role offers opportunities to provide strategic input on research direction and help establish new research streams.
Applications for this position are now open. The deadline for applications is 28 September at 11.59pm PT.
About the Team
Our researchers have published in top venues, including Science and Nature, and work closely with decision-makers across government, industry, and civil society. Our alumni have gone on to influential roles in government (US, UK, EU), leading AI companies (e.g. DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic), top think tanks (e.g. CSET, RAND), and leading universities (e.g. Oxford, Cambridge).
Our team and affiliate community possess expertise across risk management, threat modelling, frontier AI regulation, technical governance, agent governance, AI economics, international cooperation, US-China relations, and AI forecasting. Since publishing our first research agenda in 2018, we have helped define and shape the field of AI governance.
Although most of our staff are based in the United Kingdom, we also have team members in the United States and European Union.
Why You Might Be Interested In This Role
