James focuses on geopolitics and the national security implications of AI. He is on a sabbatical from the UK civil service where he has worked for over a decade in increasingly senior policy roles and overseas postings across the Ministry of Defence, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the Prime Minister's Office, and the Department for International Trade. James has also deployed on military operations as a reservist Army Commando Officer. Prior to joining the civil service, James earned an MEng from the University of Oxford, with an emphasis on information engineering and computer vision research at the robotics laboratory.
